Tourist information

Herzberg, a small medieval town on the banks of the Schwarze Elster, is located on the south-western border of the state of Brandenburg at the junction of the Leipzig-Frankfurt (B 87) and Dresden-Berlin (B 101) motorways. The wooded lowlands surrounding the town are criss-crossed by rolling hills and surrounded by extensive pine and deciduous forests, which are widely known for their abundance of mushrooms.

Picturesque floodplain landscapes, moorland, lakes, ponds and numerous historical buildings, well-tended parks, a botanical garden and nature and landscape conservation areas invite you to take relaxing walks, hikes and excursions by bike, horse-drawn carriage or on horseback.

Idyllic villages with their typical four-sided farmsteads and mostly well-preserved village churches characterise the landscape of the Elsterland impressively and lastingly in their modest simplicity.

City of Herzberg

Experience the eventful history of Herzberg and discover the historic town centre.

Enjoy the medieval atmosphere, narrow alleyways and half-timbered houses and learn about the origins of Herzberg, the town hall and St Mary's Church. It is also worth continuing your discovery tour outside the centre of Herzberg. Here you will find the water tower with its observatory, the Zeiss Planetarium and Grochwitz Park with its animal enclosure. The 12-hectare estate park with baroque elements and the former Renaissance castle of Count von Brühl offer a wonderful place to relax and unwind.
