Day of people with disabilities
No-one may be disadvantaged because of their disability. This is stated in Article 3 of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany. Participation, self-determination and unrestricted equality are therefore at the centre of the Federal Government's disability policy.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was proclaimed by the United Nations in 1993. Its aim is to draw more attention to the often difficult living conditions of people with physical or mental disabilities.
