On 10 October this year, people with and without disabilities throughout Germany will once again change their workplace and get to know the other working world.
With a record participation of around 240 workshops from all 16 federal states, more than 1,550 workshop employees and almost 1,430 employees from companies in the general labour market, the action day was a great success last year. So many people with and without disabilities swapped jobs for one day. The shift swap is possible in various areas: craft businesses, supermarkets, city and municipal administrations, broadcasting, various local media and facilities in the health and care sector.
About the day of action
Very few people have any idea what workshops for people with disabilities are like. There are still many clichés about workshops and the people with disabilities who work there, and the "Shift Change" campaign day aims to dispel these.
The day of action enables employees from companies to meet people in workshops. They gain an insight into the variety of products and services offered by the workshops and can participate in the diverse work processes themselves. The employees of the workshops, on the other hand, get a taste of occupational fields in the general labour market as part of the shift change and get to know a company better for a day. Through the unifying theme of work, the day of action creates space for new perspectives and helps to break down prejudices.
The Shift Change Action Day was developed by the Berlin workshops and the Berlin State Working Group of Workshops for Disabled People.
