History of the ElsterPark
The ElsterPark is a great project that is all about inclusion. It has grown over years of intensive planning and is now an attractive place for leisure activities, socialising and barrier-free accommodation - for EVERYONE, of course. Dr Frank Hamann in particular is one of the "makers" of the ElsterPark project.
How it all began
Dr Frank Hamann founded the non-profit organisation ELSTER WERKE GmbH in 1991 from the Lebenshilfe Elsterkreis e.V. association - a company for the participation of disabled people in working life. Today, almost 1,000 people with disabilities work in a team of around 500 skilled employees at 7 locations in a highly efficient and modern organisation. In 1992, the subsidiary INTAWO gemeinnützige GmbH (integrative day care centres and housing for the disabled) was added, which offers a wide range of residential forms, integrative day care centres and social services. The integration company INTEGRA profil, founded in 2013, integrates severely disabled people into working life.
The topic of inclusion was addressed with the opening of the ElsterPark in 2014. Everyone can spend their leisure time or holidays here without restrictions and on an equal footing. Naturally for ALL - regardless of whether people with or without disabilities:
"The attractive offer has been very well received - tolerant and respectful from both sides. After so many years of intensive and hard work, this is a valuable social asset." Dr Frank Hamann.
